A title from our amazing and longstanding client publisher SUNY Press has won a prestigious regional award, the SAMLA Studies Book Award. Mississippi State University’s Shalyn Claggett, professor of English bested stiff and worthy competition from the likes of Oxford University Press, LSU Press and University of Toronto Press to take the home the award for her brilliant book Equal Natures.
The title "explores how prominent Victorian women writers, including Harriet Martineau and George Eliot, engaged with contemporary science to challenge gendered norms and societal power structures." Of the win, Claggett is quoted as saying, "Writing and publishing a scholarly book takes an incredible amount of time, labour and effort. Winning the SAMLA prize, and particularly the judges’ kind appreciation, makes me feel that all of that work was both seen and appreciated."
Massive congratulations to SUNY Press, to Professor Claggett, and to all the runners up. A full list of other award winning titles from SUNY Press can be found here.
